There have been several protests taking place across the nation with the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Thousands of people hit the streets, protesting the CAA and NRC, among which were also some celebrities such as Farhan Akhtar, Sushant Singh, Swara Bhasker, Huma Qureshi. Meanwhile, a few days ago, news of a former teacher Sadaf Jafar being arrested in Lucknow for being a part of an anti-CAA protest hit the headlines. Sadaf Jafar is also an actress who is a part of Mira Nair’s upcoming film A Suitable Boy, starring Ishaan Khatter and Tabu.

On December 22, 2019, director Mira Nair took to her Twitter account to share the report of Sadaf Jafar’s arrest and wrote that she was appalled by what’s happening and demanded her release. She had written, “This is our India now - Appalling: our #SuitableBoy actress, Sadaf Jafar, beaten and jailed for peaceful protest in Lucknow! Join me in demanding her release.” Now, last night, Mira Nair again shared a report and posted an excerpt of the same in her Tweet. She also informed that it has now been 10 days since Sadaf has been in jail. Her tweet read, “When Sadaf Jafar went w/ 100s of others on Dec. 19 to demonstrate against India’s new citizenship law, she told her children she would be home that evening. She never made it back.” Sadaf has now been in jail for 10 days. #FreeSadaf & all other protestors.” ALSO READ: CAA Protests: Hansal Mehta Joins Hands With Mira Nair For The Release Of Suitable Boy Actress Sadaf Jafar
